Since 1971, Max L. Cowen's Student Stores has been selling to school stores across the United States. We specialize in basic & novelty school supplies for the K-12 market. We also build customize Back-to-School supply kits and sell imprinted school supplies, locker accessories & science/project boards.

Located in Utica, NY, a small upstate community, our company is committed to success through:

  • the promotion of the satisfaction and well being of its employees.
Max CowenOur founder, the late Max L. Cowen, had a long association with schools.  In the 1940's, Max taught dancing in the Utica schools.  During this time, he developed relationships with school administrators that he continued for the rest of his life.  Max, a multi-talented entrepreneur, conceptualized and developed several unique businesses.  A life long athlete, Max, was one of our nation's most avid long-distance walkers.  His feats included walking from New York City to Chicago.


In 1971, Max founded this company.  His commitment was to excellent value and service to the school market.  This tradition is now vigorously pursued by a second generation of the Cowen Family.  Aided by a great staff team (many of them trained by Max), our company continues to grow in its development of exceptional customer service enhanced by today's technology.

We have created this website to accomplish a number of goals including:
  • Enabling customers to order in a quick and straight forward manner.
  • Offering of new items between catalogs.
  • Expanding our communication with customers.
  • Providing additional information to customers.
